Football is one of the best vehicles for social change (not to mention it’s fun to play). As fans of social change AND fun, Architecture for Humanity, Nike, and Fu.De (Football for Development) teamed up to host a design competition, Copa Arquitectura. The designs called for a prototype football, education, and health center for Liga FOS -- a project that promotes social development through sport in vulnerable Buenos Aires suburbs.
Program and Project Background
Liga FOS promotes social development through football, in vulnerable neighborhoods in Buenos Aires suburbs.
With a GAMECHANGERS grant, Architecture for Humanity will work with local designers, partners and community to:
• Host a design competition “Copa Arquitectura” in conjunction with the Copa America
• Construct prototypical sport + facilities center for the community league
The site is located in a low-income neighborhood in Moreno, 36km west of Buenos Aires city. It is accessible by public transportation (buses), with a stop only a few blocks away. There is a kindergarten, and primary school nearby that have no sports facilities. The center will be used for other institutions and for the entire community.
• Football pitch
• Multi-purpose rooms (health + education, events)
• Locker rooms
